Who doesn’t love a good car chase? For one thing, they provide something different besides just two or three going at it, beating the snot out of each other. There’s always something a little more intense when it comes to car chases. Car enthusiasts love seeing high end cars pushed to their limits. There’s also more likely to be some sort of explosion… People love explosions.
This week’s Action Scene Sunday goes out to the opening car chase from the James Bond film, Quantum of Solace (2008). I know, everyone says that this is possibly the worst Bond film to date. I do agree with them in that sense, but I don’t think Quantum of Solace is a bad action film, in general.
Seeing as this is the FIRST scene of the movie, I’d say the picture hits the ground running. Bond is transporting a hostage back to MI6 headquarters and said hostage has a few friends who think otherwise.
The shots are as pretty as actor Daniel Craig, and the sound mixing is superb. You hear the rev of the engines as if you were riding shotgun in that Aston Martin and the tension is high. A great way to start off any action movie… But like I said if you’re looking for a GREAT James Bond film, go for Casino Royale (2006) or Goldfinger (1964), those are my two favorites.
