This week’s action scene comes from an oldie but a goodie. This is from The Princess Bride (1987). The scene is a sword fight between the movie’s two protagonists, Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin) and The Man in Black (Cary Elwes).
The scene is one of the most well choreographed fight scenes in film history, in my humble opinion. People do not realize how much goes into a fight scene when being filmed. It is endearing for all parties physically, mentally, and sometimes even emotionally.
The dialogue is great. The two swordsmen banter back and forth with one another, keeping the fight intense with a spark of fun in it.
AND LET’S JUST TALK ABOUT THE SCENERY TOO. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN MORE BEAUTIFUL SET PIECES? Fantastic art direction all around.
The music is also great. Exciting and upbeat, just like the fight itself.
This scene always excites me when I watch it and I think it deserves recognition not only on this blog, but from all cinephiles.
